Our students walk into our classroom everyday knowing much more about technology than we probably do. It is our job to help them use those skills and expand upon them to to make them creators and producers rather than just consumers of information. Below are some of my favorite tools, apps and websites I use with my students.
Web-based
Storyjumper
http://www.storyjumper.com/
Storyjumper is web based and free to use. Students can create online books using images existing in the program or they can import their own photos. Teachers can manage student accounts or students can have their own accounts (if they have an email address). I have used this program with students K-6. This tool is engaging for reluctant writers as well as those who enjoy writing. The only downfall I have encountered is students can be distracted by choosing and creating the images. This can be remedied by helping the students set goals for what they want to get accomplished during their work time.

iMovie is a tool in your applications folder on your MacBook. iMovie can be used for a number of purposes. Students can use iMovie to create projects that are informational, entertaining or persuasive. Students can use images, text, music, voice and video to create a project that is as unique and creative as they want it to be. There are several tools that can be used in conjunction with iMovie. Students have access to flip and HD video cameras, green screen, videoblocks motion backgrounds and iClipart. iMovie can also be used on the iPads.
